Blood Moon & Eclipse 2015

I've been away from the photo blog for a bit! Easing back into things now that life has settled down some. September 27th brought an eclipse on the super moon / blood moon / harvest moon, whatever we're calling it these days. After driving to find a good location, I finally settled on some foggy farm land in Concord. It was an awesomely bright full moon, followed by a dark red eclipse that was perfectly fitting for fall.

I'll try to do some more with the pics so you can really see the eclipse movement in another post.

Post-Blizzard Golden Hour

In what has been an incredibly snowy winter, this latest blizzard brought well over a foot and a half to the Boston area. Most people spent the day shoveling out... again. It was well below zero and the snow banks are more than 10 feet now. With all of that though, the sun came out this afternoon and threw some great colors and shadows on the wind-whipped drifts.

Cadillac Mountain Cloudbreak

Keeping it rolling here with some shots from Cadillac Mountain and Bar Harbor when the sun finally broke through! Of course, this was late in the afternoon on the day we were leaving. We headed up the mountain road fully surrounded by clouds whipped by the wind. At the summit it was easily 20 degrees colder, but after a few moments, the clouds finally broke and offered some great views. We ended up staying later than we wanted, but it was worth it! A quick stop in downtown Bar Harbor to see the ships and pick up some local craft beer, then on to the 5 hour drive to Boston!

Acadia in the Mist

It's been a while! And I've definitely forgotten to post some pictures from the past few months. Let's take care of that with a few posts in a row from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park this fall. This first group here is an early October day exploring the beaches, cliffs, and trails of Acadia in the mist, fog, and rain. Although it was peak leaf season -and the tourists on the roads definitely showed it- most of the side trails were deserted, so it wasn't a complete bust!

Chatham Light Long Exposures

Earlier this year while on the Cape, I made a quick trip to Chatham Light to catch the sunset. I put a serious filter on the wide-angle lens that allowed for twenty to thirty second exposures during the daylight. With the long exposures and dark filter, it produces an effect where the clouds look like they are streaking across the sky.

Atlantic Sunrise - Part 2

As mentioned in the previous post, I ventured out to LeCount Hollow in Wellfleet on Cape Cod to capture the sunrise. Below are some additional photos from that morning.
